Holiday Party Planning Tips for Memorable Affairs

Published November 11th, 2019 by Sebastian

The holiday season is right around the corner, and that means parties, parties, and more parties. Whether you're hosting a corporate gathering or a family soiree, it can get a bit overwhelming. Follow our holiday planning tips for memorable events and a jolly good time.

1. Get Organized

The key to throwing a great party is getting organized. There are so many details to keep track of, from guest lists to decorations, it is essential to make to-do lists, so things don't slip through the cracks. Create a folder or a notebook (either digitally or physically) just for your event and store everything in it to hold all of the party documents, lists, and receipts. This will be your go-to-guide.

2. Teamwork

Successful parties can't happen alone, so it is important to enlist a few friends or coworkers to help take it on. Whether it's for planning, set-up, clean-up or entertainment, split up duties accordingly to make sure everything gets handled efficiently.

3. Book a Venue

Before you can decide where your event will take place, you must pick a date. Look for a venue that offers food and private dining spaces near you and contact them right away to get the date on the books. The catering manager should be able to work with your vision for the perfect holiday menus.

4. Decorations

Create a festive atmosphere by setting the mood with holiday decorations. Choose a color scheme and carry it through from invitations to table settings. Make sure to inquire with the venue on what they provide and what you still need. They could already have decorations up for the season, saving you some time and money.

5. Plan the Menu

Whether you pick a restaurant setting or hosting a party at your home, you need to think about what food options you have. Most venues will feature a catering menu for parties and events, making it easy to plan. Of course, you can always talk to the managers to get something customized for your unique event. Whether it is for a sit-down meal or passed hor d'oeuvres, know your budget ahead of time.

6. Drinks

When there's a party, there are drinks. Decide what type of beverages you want to include or whether or not you want an open bar. You may want to consider limiting the drinks to a set ticketed amount if it is a work function.

7. Gift Swap

Everyone loves getting a holiday gift, and gift swapping is a great way to spread holiday cheer. Set up a Secret Santa or organize a White Elephant gift exchange for a fun way to get into the holiday spirit.
